Portrait of Sarah Galvan

Sarah Galvan

she/her
Managing Director, Elder Rights

Sarah joined Justice in Aging in 2018 and leads our guardianship and elder justice advocacy work. She is passionate about promoting equitable policies and responses to elder abuse and elder rights issues. Sarah also provides project direction for the National Center on Law & Elder Rights, an ACL elder justice resource center that helps advocates build capacity, expertise, and skills to reach and serve older adults.

Sarah was drawn to elder rights-focused work because of her own experience being raised in multigenerational households, where older family members were valued and strengthened the family unit. This solidified her desire to work towards fostering social structures and creating policies that enable older adults to remain engaged and safe in their communities.

Sarah started her career as a legal aid attorney, and built expertise in legal aid funding and delivery systems for older adults. She is a 2009 graduate of the University of Notre Dame Law School. Sarah serves on the board of directors for Center for Elder Law & Justice, the editorial board for American Society on Aging’s Generations Journal, and the advisory boards for the Eldercare Locator and the National Center on Elder Abuse.

Sarah lives in Western New York with her husband and their mischievous bunny, Dash. On the weekends, she can usually be found taking a stroll along the Niagara River or on her front porch with a good book and glass of wine.
