Senior Attorney

Rachel Gershon re-joined Justice in Aging in 2023. Her work on the Health Team is focused on improving the experiences of low-income adults enrolled in Medicare, including paying for medication, leaving incarceration, and navigating both Medicaid and Medicare at the same time.

Rachel has witnessed the power of public benefits in the lives of family, friends, and colleagues. As an Americorps VISTA volunteer in 2004, she worked alongside people to understand their health coverage options and saw the effects of an opaque benefits system on physical, mental, and financial health. Her path was solidified when she served as a Borchard Foundation Law and Aging fellow at Justice in Aging and Whitman Walker Clinic in 2010, representing clients facing issues with Social Security and Supplemental Security Income.

Rachel spent a decade working with state Medicaid systems seeking to make care delivery better, including working on language access, re-entry services, housing and food assistance, and integrated care for individuals dually enrolled in Medicaid and Medicare. She has a J.D. and Masters in Public Health from Harvard University.

Rachel lives in Massachusetts with her wife, children, and cats.
