Liam Mcgivern

he/him
Senior Litigation Attorney

Liam joined Justice in Aging in 2023 to continue his work using the law to help people access healthcare, supports to remain in the community, housing, food, and other basic necessities. As a member of JIA’s Litigation Team, Liam collaborates with local, state, and national partners to bring lawsuits to work towards the dream of dignity and social safety for all seniors.

Liam approaches his work in poverty law believing both in the power of government to improve people’s lives, and in the need for zealous advocacy to hold government to the highest standards of fairness and equity. Through litigation, Liam works to ensure that government programs created to provide essential help achieve their purpose for all, regardless of identity.

After graduating magna cum laude from the University of Miami School of Law in 2012, Liam began his legal career as a Skadden Fellow representing wrongfully discharged former members of the armed forces to gain access to healthcare and disability benefits. In his career, Liam has worked in legal aid programs, a state protection and advocacy organization, and a city civil rights enforcement program. As a legal aid attorney, Liam successfully advocated for changes in the law to ensure that people living in low-income immigrant neighborhoods are not unfairly accused of misusing their food stamps, and to ensure that disabled veterans have access to food stamps. Liam has presented at national, regional, state, and local conferences on a variety of poverty law issues, and his advocacy has been covered in local and national media.

A resident of South Florida, Liam spends as much time as he can outside bird watching, strolling the Everglades, or playing on the beach with his family.
