Barrons, Nursing Home Commission Reveals Divisions Over Response to Covid-19 and Recommends Immediate Improvements, September 17, 2020

An independent commission set up by the Trump administration to assess the impact of Covid-19 on nursing homes released dozens of recommendations on Wednesday but also revealed divisions over how to respond to the crisis.

“This report says a lot about what CMS should be doing, but it doesn’t require much of nursing facilities,” Justice in Aging’s Carlson said in an interview. “The report doesn’t have much of anything to say about the obligation of nursing facilities to comply with the law,” he said, and generally refrains from imposing any substantive obligations on the industry.
