Advocating for the Aging

RVN Television
June 2024

Justice in Aging Policy Advocate, Hannah Diamond, was interviewed for this segment about advocates’ efforts to expand access to Medicaid for older adults and people with disabilities in New Jersey and why it’s important for addressing serious gaps in health care for these populations.

When states expanded Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act, people under 65 were able to access Medicaid if their incomes were less than 138% of the federal poverty level and they were not subject to asset restrictions.

“Unfortunately, these same expanded eligibility protections were not afforded to older adults and people with disabilities. Older adults and people with disabilities are subject to more stringent income and asset criteria than younger populations,” Hannah told the host, Victoria Schall, Esq.
