Social Security is a lifeline for many Americans, especially for women and communities of color–who may not have as much retirement income as other groups. Tracey Gronniger of Justice in Aging says cutting Social Security would be tremendously unfair to communities who depend on it most.
“Women in our culture and society have a lot of duty and responsibility that doesn’t translate into long-term retirement security. You often see women taking on roles of caregivers. They have flexible hours but they don’t make as much money, which means their not receiving as much social security, or putting aside savings.”
