Older adults leaving prison or jail should be able to access health care, housing, and enough income to meet their basic needs.
As the overall population ages, the prison population is aging too. Older adults reentering our communities from prison, jail, or other carceral settings face significant barriers in accessing programs and services that help them meet their needs. These older adults are disproportionately older adults of color who, due to structural discrimination, face even greater challenges to living securely in the community.
Justice in Aging’s reentry advocacy uses our expertise in Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, SSI, and other programs to break down these barriers, helping older adults transition successfully into their communities.
