We all deserve high quality, affordable health care that is easy to access in our communities. Medicare is the primary source of this basic health care for people over 65.
Unfortunately, the program is not always accessible or affordable, and many essential services are not covered. The program has confusing and specific enrollment periods and corresponding financial penalties for not enrolling in the right program at the right time. There is also a dizzying array of private plans that are aggressively marketed to low-income older adults and don’t always offer the services they promise.
Justice in Aging’s Medicare advocacy focuses on making the program more affordable and easier to navigate, ensuring private Medicare Advantage Plans are held to the same high standards as Traditional Medicare, and expanding the program to address gaps in coverage for long-term care, dental, vision, and hearing.
