Low-income older adults should be able to access a full range of high-quality health care in their communities.

Medicaid plays a vital role in filling Medicare’s gaps, covering essential services like long-term care, oral health, vision, hearing, and transportation. It also helps low-income individuals afford Medicare premiums.

However, access to Medicaid and the rules that determine who qualifies vary from state to state. There are many barriers to accessing Medicaid, including strict income and asset limits, a confusing process that requires frequent eligibility checks, and more.

Justice in Aging works at the state and federal level to oppose proposed cuts to Medicaid, expand access by ensuring that eligible people can access the program without red tape, and reforming policies that perpetuate poverty and poor health outcomes.
