This webinar took place on Wednesday, November 30, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. PT / 2:00 p.m. ET.
Supplemental Security Income (SSI) can be a challenging program to understand, with many complex and detail-intensive concepts and rules organized in a structure that can make it daunting for newer advocates to find the information they need. This webinar will demystify a few topics where advocates often have questions.
This webinar, Topics in SSI—Housing Security, Understanding In-Kind Support and Maintenance, and Navigating the POMS, will provide information and training to help with:
- Understanding the housing affordability and homelessness crisis for low-income older adults and people with disabilities, including SSI recipients.
- Understanding the concept of “in-kind support and maintenance” (ISM), where SSI benefits are reduced if individuals receive help with food or shelter costs. The focus will be on the underlying definitions in ISM, with the goal of giving advocates a basic foundation from which they can more easily understand detailed ISM scenarios.
- Learning tips to navigate the Program Operations Manual System (POMS) and more easily find relevant policy guidance
