Free Webinar: Issues in the Representative Payee Program for Older Adults

This webinar took place on Tuesday, September 24, 2019 11 am-12 pm PT/2-3 pm ET.

The Social Security Administration’s (SSA’s) representative payee program is critical for ensuring that older adults who cannot manage their own finances have the necessary support to age in dignity. Justice in Aging focuses our work on addressing the major issues facing the representative payee program as they specifically relate to older adults. To protect seniors from financial exploitation or interruptions in their benefits, it is imperative that those providing oversight of the payee program are aware of key issues related to ensuring that older beneficiaries are not harmed by this arrangement.

In this webinar, we will explore these key issues, in particular when creditors, such as nursing facilities or other residential facilities, act as representative payees for residents. We will also review the resources available from Justice in Aging that focus on the needs of older beneficiaries with a payee. This webinar will prepare you for the upcoming P & A Initiated Reviews in nursing homes.
