This video is the first in a short series on improvements the Social Security Administration is implementing to improve its programs and customer service for the people who rely on Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and other benefits, or wish to apply for them.
Resources:
- Update June 2025: SSA’s revised overpayment waiver form incorporates the changes made in 2024 to overpayment policies, including increasing the administrative waiver amount to $2,000.
- Update April 2025: SSA increased the default withholding for Social Security (Title II) overpayments to 50%, starting April 25, 2025 (see EM 25029 REV)
- Update 11/25: SSA updated a number of overpayment policies, including to begin from a neutral position when determining fault, update situations where SSA will presume an inability to repay, and update the financial criteria for obtaining waiver of an overpayment.
