About
The Social Security Administration and DOGE are blocking older adults and people with disabilities from accessing the benefits they are legally entitled to and rely on to pay for housing, food, utilities, and health through a rapid and aggressive dismantling of the agency. People are waiting hours on the phone to reach representatives, only to be disconnected. They are traveling significant distances to the nearest SSA office, only to be left waiting until the office closed. A woman trying to apply for retirement benefits waited on hold for hours before she finally reached a representative on the phone, who informed her that she would need to visit an office to apply for benefits and that there were no appointments available for 40 days at any of the six offices in her region. Others have reported late payments that they could previously rely on to come on time. These barriers are threatening lives as they keep people from accessing the income they rely on to survive.
Plaintiffs request that the Court reverse the closures of the Office of Civil Rights and Equal Opportunity (OCREO) and the Office of Transformation (OT), halt all staffing reductions, reinstate employees, and roll back the policies that overburden field offices and telephone services.
