The Trump Administration has ordered all federal agencies to suspend grant, loan, and financial assistance activities by 5:00 PM ET today, January 28. This extreme action is dangerous on many levels and creates significant threats to the health and safety of older adults across the country.

This funding freeze is extremely broad and could have immediate and dire consequences for low-income older adults by making it much harder for older adults to get basic services they count on – including housing, health care, legal services and all the supportive services, nutrition programs, and elder justice programs funded through the Older Americans Act.

We are already seeing multiple lawsuits challenging this – but we need Congress to take action today. Members of Congress need to hear how even a short pause in funds that support older adults will cause mass disruption in our communities and harm you, your families, and your clients. Tell your story now!

Take Action

  1. Look up your Senators and Representatives.
  2. Call (202) 224-3121, the capitol switchboard.
  3. Ask to be connected to the Senator or Representative you’re calling.
  4. When you get them on the phone say:

“I am a constituent in [town/city] and I want you to take action to stop the federal funding freeze because it will harm the older adults in my family and community.”

  1. Call two more times and speak to your other members of Congress. All members of Congress need to hear from us.
