More than 700 national, state, and local organizations—led by the Disability and Aging Collaborative (DAC) and the Consortium for Constituents with Disabilities (CCD) have sent a letter to Speaker Mike Johnson, Leader Hakeem Jeffries, and all members of the U.S. House of Representatives, urging them to reject the proposed Medicaid cuts in the pending budget reconciliation package.

This letter underscores that the consequences of these cuts are now clearer than ever:

  • Over 13.7 million people, including 400,000 children, risk losing Medicaid coverage.
  • Nearly 5 million individuals could be terminated from coverage due to mandatory work requirements, which are more severe than previous federal proposals.
  • Home and community-based services (HCBS) funding faces significant reductions, threatening care for older adults and people with disabilities.
  • These cuts would not only strip essential health coverage from those who need it most but also destabilize state healthcare systems, particularly in rural and underserved communities.

We are sharing the full letter with the list of 700+ signers. Leaders from DAC, CCD, and partner organizations are available for comment or interview. With lives on the line, now is the time to elevate these voices. We are available to coordinate interviews and provide any additional background information to support your coverage on this timely issue.
